After School Program

Yeshiva Har Torah offers a variety of after-school clubs during the school year.  The clubs are for students in grades K through 4 and meet from 3:45PM until 4:30PM. Every effort is made for students to travel home with the children who are dismissed at 4:30PM. Here is a sampling of some clubs that have been offered recently:

LET'S BUILD IT! CHAIN REACTIONS
Students will construct Rube Goldberg machines, like the Heavyweight Hammer and the Spin-o-Matic, and then combine them to create exciting chain reactions! Each week, the chain reactions will become more complex with the introduction of new machines. The projects will afford students the opportunity to delve into concepts such as force, gravity, velocity, types of energy, and balance. At the end of the session, students will be challenged to create the Ultimate Chain Reaction by working cooperatively to see how many machines they can incorporate.
 
SOCCER
Yeshiva Har Torah is proud to offer this fun soccer program. This program creates a supportive and positive environment in which your child is challenged in a variety of ways. Your child will learn the rules, strategy, participate in weekly drills, and learn sportsmanship that will further enhance their enjoyment of the sport.
 
LEGO ROBOTICS
This is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles and other structures out of LEGO® Bricks. Each class begins with a instructor-led discussion related to the model of the day. Students build a new project each week. While exploring principles of engineering, architecture, physics and more, students will develop problem
solving and critical thinking skills.
 
KRAV MAGA
A concentrated physical program for kids to develop physical ability, self-defense and confidence, as well as decision making and critical thinking. Our self-defense training is designed to be incredibly dynamic and personalized for each child, we focus on approaching each student with care and attention, in order to motivate them to be dedicated and focused.
 
ABRAKADOODLE
Doodlers develop new skills and talents while designing unique creations using a variety of materials. Each Art Class focuses upon developing skills, learning techniques and expanding self-confidence.
 
LET'S CODE IT
This course will immerse students in the world of computer programming. Your child will have the opportunity to design games, explore animation, and combine music and art with coding. This class uses the block-based programming system Scratch, which was developed by the MIT Media Lab to teach programming concepts. Topics covered include event handling, coordinates, conditional statements, user interface design, variables, logic statements, and synchronization.
 
ZUMBATOMIC                                                  

Sure, chillin’ out is cool. But rockin’ out is a blast! That’s why your kids will love the ZUMBATOMIC® fitness program for kids. It’s a fast-forward fusion of the Zumba program’s moves and high-octane workouts designed to let kids max out on fun and fitness all at the same time. Safe and effective, kids can’t wait to get into the ZUMBATOMIC® groove. Watch their energy and fitness levels soar as they get the flow!  

 
VIDEO GAME CODING AND DESIGN
Students are taught computer programming by showing them how to design their own video games. No programming experience is necessary. Students will learn game design through a collaborative series of age-appropriate exercises using Scratch programming, created at the MIT Media Lab. Each project will call upon your child’s imagination, nurturing their emerging critical skills as they bring new characters to life through their own basic video games and interactive stories.
 
DRONE AERIAL OPERATORS COURSE
A one of a kind club where students will get a chance to navigate a drone through obstacles and missions while learning how to conduct aerial photography and navigation. Classes will follow the Unmanned Aerial Operators course.
 
BRICKS4KIDZ
Bricks 4 Kidz after-school classes build on the universal popularity of LEGO® bricks to deliver high quality educational play. Kids construct a new model each week based on exciting themes from space to sports, amusement parks to animals. Bricks 4 Kidz teachers lead a discussion related to that day’s model, using materials designed by educators to teach concepts across a variety of subject areas. Kids will learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, space exploration, weather, and more!
 
CHESS

Tri-State Chess is back at Yeshiva Har Torah. Newcomers are welcome. The instructor will continue to guide students in learning & playing this stimulating game. Our goal is to teach children in Grades K-4 abstract concepts of planning, analysis, and strategy through the game of chess. Kids will be excited to understand the rule and strategy of chess and amazed by the positive experience that chess offers. We believe that when a child learns this complex game they will build self-confidence, develop self-learning tools, and learn how to evaluate their own decision making process.

 

JEWLERYMANIA!

We are excited to be partnering with Ofra Jewels (ofrajewels.com) to offer a Jewelry making club. Using only semi-precious stones and the finest materials, Ofra Jewels will introduce children to the ancient art of jewelry making. Children are encouraged to explore their creativity and are introduced to interesting color and texture while improving hand eye coordination, small muscle development, and pattern making skills all in a relaxed, joyful environment!

 

STOP MOTION ANIMATION

Unleash your inner Spielberg! This program will provide an overview of the principles and techniques used in animation. Groups will develop storylines, design and build characters, develop scripts and incorporate sounds and effects. Student will use digital cameras, computers and models to create their cinematic masterpieces. This club is designed to provide a fun and stimulating experience using art and creative tools.
 
BASKETBALL CLINIC
Improve dribbling, passing, and shooting skills; increase endurance and simulate game situations. This class is taught by a certified physical education teacher and PSAL coach.
 
MAD SCIENCE

This hands-on science program is organized around a particular area of science and includes topics like rocketry, magnets, polymers, and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. This program offers children a chance to see just how cool science can be!

 
AFTER SCHOOL STAGE STARS
No previous acting experience is necessary. The children will act in short skits and play theater games. The theme for the short skits this session is fables. Every student will play one lead role per session. The theater games help the students use their creativity to communicate and improvise. The students will learn theater terms, the parts of a skit, and goals of the characters. Each child will receive a participation award on the last day of the session. The skits will also be performed on the last day and the parents are invited to attend!
 
ALL STARS SPORTS

The All Stars sports program teaches the fundamentals, rules and skills of sports as the children develop speed, agility, balance and coordination. The sports included in the program are Baseball, Soccer, Football, Hockey, Tennis, and Basketball. 

HOMEWORK CLUB
Homework Club is an after school program that provides a quiet, structured environment for your child to do his/her homework. Homework assistance and additional academic support will be provided during this weekly club.  This is a great club for students who need extra academic attention.
 
ART  
This class will be an exciting way for children to explore the world of art and express their creativity through hands-on projects. Children will have the opportunity to look at art in a new way using different mediums. They will have fun exploring their creative side doing activities like recycled art, edible art, kitchen sink art, and much more.
 
MAKING MAGIC!                            
What makes "Making Magic" different than any other magic program? We developed a program where kids can continue to work with their hands building many of their magic tricks using materials we provide them. “Making Magic” builds dexterity and boosts confidence as kids practice and perform for each other. Like all of The Hobby Quest programs, there are no shortcuts to success.
