Our Mission Our Values, and Our History

Our Mission

Yeshiva Har Torah is a Centrist Orthodox Yeshiva for boys and girls. Our goal is to educate children in a warm, caring environment that brings out the unique qualities in our students. We strive to develop a love for learning within our students while giving them the skills and confidence to succeed.

Our dedication to Halacha and Torah values, in combination with a sophisticated and challenging curriculum in Jewish and General Studies, encourages the pursuit of excellence in all academic areas. Our passionate commitment to religious Zionism and Medinat Yisrael provides our students with the understanding of the meaning and centrality that the State of Israel has in our lives. Kavod Habriot (respect for humanity) is deliberately integrated into the fabric of our school as we prepare our students to make positive contributions within society.

Our Values: Strive for 5

SFF

At Yeshiva Har Torah, we are deeply committed to nurturing every aspect of our students' development. While providing a strong academic foundation, we equally focus on fostering their social, emotional, moral, and spiritual growth. Our Strive for 5 Core Values serve as the foundation for this work, guiding students throughout their journey at Yeshiva Har Torah.

The five core values - Curiosity, Compassion, Strength, Connection to Hashem, and Making a Difference - represent the qualities we strive to cultivate in every student. Together, they provide a shared language and vision that shape our classrooms, relationships, and school culture.

Strive for 5 reflects our belief that growth is a lifelong pursuit. As Jews, we are constantly striving to become the best versions of ourselves through learning, reflection, and meaningful action. We encourage our students to embrace that journey, recognizing that personal growth is an essential part of both their character development and their Jewish identity.

These values are woven into the fabric of our school community. They can be seen in our classrooms, hallways, extracurricular activities, and daily interactions, guiding students, faculty, and families alike. Through Strive for 5, we prepare our students to become compassionate leaders, thoughtful learners, committed Jews, and individuals who make a positive impact on their communities, Klal Yisrael, and the world.

Our History

Founded in 1989, Yeshiva Har Torah began with fewer than twenty students in Kindergarten and first grade, united by a shared vision: to create a warm, child-centered yeshiva where every student is known, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential. Spearheaded by our founding Dean, Rabbi Meir Bilitzky, together with a dedicated group of parents and community leaders, that vision continues to guide our school today.

In 1995, Rabbi Gary Menchel assumed the role of Head of School and has led Yeshiva Har Torah with wisdom, warmth, and unwavering dedication ever since. Under his leadership, YHT has grown into a thriving, forward-thinking school, expanding both its educational programming and its commitment to meeting the needs of every child.

In 2005, Yeshiva Har Torah moved into its Grand Central Parkway Campus, a purpose-built facility designed to support its growing student body. As enrollment continued to increase, an additional floor was added in 2012. More recently, the school expanded again with the opening of its dedicated Early Learning Center campus, providing an exceptional environment for its youngest students while creating additional space and specialized learning opportunities for students in Grades 3–8.

Today, with over 800 students across two campuses, Yeshiva Har Torah is recognized as one of the premier Modern Orthodox Yeshivot in the New York metropolitan area, while remaining true to the values upon which it was founded.
