YHT: The Place to Be - Middot Curriculum

At Yeshiva Har Torah, Derech Eretz Kadma L’Torah. Our awesome responsibility of teaching middot (character traits) to our students is central to their growth. Students and teachers in Grades 1-4 make YHT “the place to be” through our middot and character building program. YHT: The Place to Be is implemented through a team of teachers who meet regularly to create programming and classroom experiences focusing specifically on middot. Every month we learn about a specific middah through a lesson in Jewish Studies classes, and a book of the month and reading response in General Studies classes. Middot we have studied, such as gratefulness and respect, are integrated into school-wide activities and classroom lessons. Elementary school students meet once a month at an assembly to participate in a special performance by one of our classes about the middah of the month. Students are encouraged, through positive reinforcement, to become conscientious community members, feeling a sense of achriut (responsibility) towards their school, peers, and themselves.
